This drainage lagoon was created nearly two years ago at the junction of Holly Lane and Outwood Lane to prevent flooding after heavy rainfall. The WoodChips are a local conservation group who operate with the Countryside Office of Reigate and Banstead Council and work mainly in Banstead Woods and Chipstead Downs. They successfully applied to the Trust for a grant to plant aquatic species in the lagoon to create a haven for local wildlife and also to soften its rather stark appearance! Planting took place earlier this year and we look forward to watching the site mature as the year progresses. Thanks to the WoodChips for the photos.
Here we are at the Carshalton Environmental Fair on Bank Holiday Monday.
Downlands Trustees Pam and Noreen and Connor from Downlands Partnership and Lucy who was spinning with wool from North Downs sheep were there to explain the work of the Trust and the Partnership. We had much interest, recruited a few members, gave out many DT leaflets and sold lots of Karina Siba’s Art cards which included a donation to the Downlands Trust. An event we must be at again next year!
